Well I attended the Norman Oklahoma Palin book signing. I carried a sign that said Winners Never Quit Quitters Never Win. A comment that could have been taken as either positive or negative about Palin. The positive could have been she's a winner that never quits. But even her avid fans took it as a negative, telling me it is an issue that would have legs in a political campaign. If the fans first thoughts are negative it is a pretty sure bet that the 'undecided' and 'indifferent' could be swayed with the quitter moniker. I saw one other sign along the same lines.
Palin for President 2012-2013 ½
I got called loser more than a dozen times. One lady made a couple of passes just to remind me what a loser I was, I thought it was pretty funny. Of course there were numerous anti-Obama comments. One that puzzled me was "does that sign spell Obama?" A couple of folks wanted to get into arguments. I just smiled held up my sign and moved on. Another comment that made little sense 'Look now he is stopping to light a cigarette'. I was actually smoking a cigar but why quibble over a small detail. To me the tone of their voice said --oooh he hates Sarah annnd smokes-- somehow justifying rude comments. I guess the lesson from fans is if you dislike Sarah you must be for Obama; a telling but wrong assumption.
An older gentleman "explained" to me why it was Democrats fault for her quitting; pointing out that it was in her book. Of course by that logic every elected official that is attacked by the opposition party should resign!
The cops told me I had to go to the sidewalk. So apparently the cops took my sign as negative. The signs 'I love Sarah' and 'Palin for President 2012' were allowed to stay up in the crowds. Apparently political speech is only allowed if it supports the candidate otherwise you are delegated to the sidewalk.
Well kind of, I received a CD titled Fall of the Republic while in the crowd. I have not checked out the CD, for all I know it could contain a nasty virus. I did check their website site this morning it is an anti-Obama conspiracy site. Negative politicking against Obama was allowed since they did not receive a visit from the cops telling them to keep it on the sidewalk.
I got a few smiles from people in the crowd and a few knowing nods when they read my sign.
For those that said or will say "he just wanted to be on TV" on two occasions I was asked to be interviewed. Once by a group doing a documentary on Oklahoma politics and once by a station, I declined both times. Several people asked to take a picture of the sign, I told them as long as I am not in it.
